Purchased the mic a few days ago so I haven't really had a chance to fully test it... that said, I'm very satisfied with this mic so far. Kind of went out on a limb wih this one as there isn't really much info on BASN mics but they're pretty well-nown for their IEMs. The mic is very solid regarding its construction. The fact that it comes in a hard case with the shock mount, a pop screen and an XLR cable only adds to the value. Again, all appear to be well built and very solid.
As for how the mic sounds:
In the short time I've had this mic I find that it compares very favorably to my other condensers:
MXL 990, MXL V63M, 512 Audio Skylight, a RODE NT1 Signature, an Avantone CK7+ Pro and a Lewitt LCT 240. All are basic work horses and the most I paid for any of them still came in at under $200.00.
I like that BASN has chosen to not imitate vintage mics, plenty of companies doing that already. To my ears the BASN is similar to the Lewitt LCT 240. It produces a very detailed and "transparent" signal that strikes me as having a "polished sheen"... the "modern" sound as opposed to the vintage sound. The proximity effect is a bit more obvious with this mic but it's not anything that can't be tidied up with a bit of EQ.
I also really like the overall design and looks of the mic... actually, the mic is gorgeous IMHO. I purchased the blue version of this mic and it's a very nics blue. There is a black verion of this mic as well... identical in every way to the blue model but it always seems to cost more that the blue.
Overall - totally satisfied and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. A versatile mic and great value for the money.
